Beaujolais
Next to Canadian Champagne and British
wines of any stripe, no wine has been
sullied as much as Beaujolais. And blame
it all on that damn Nouveau stuff. The
only positive thing it created was cash
flow for the vintners; the rest we will
choose to forget in that haze of carbonic
silliness. True Beaujolais is one of the
most glorious wines on the planet. Officially,
Beaujolais is in Burgundy but the grape
involved is Gamay, not Pinot Noir. And
talk about sense of place: these wines
sing of their surroundings and the hard
work of the vintners trying to overcome
the zaniness of the 3rd Thursday in November.
Expect to be amazed tonight.

An Intimate Dinner
To end our spring season, I will host
a small dinner for 8 guests. Marco and
Jordan will prepare a stupendous tasting
menu and I will match wines from the cellar
that have been gathering dust and acclaim
(at least in my mind). No theme tonight
just a bacchanalian feast.
